Aruba 8.x/Mobility Master Upgrade

Upgrade the wireless controllers to OS 8.x / Mobility Master. HP/Aruba has announced the next version of their operating system, version 8. With this new version of the software they have also announced a new hardware architecture called the Mobility Master architecture. The purpose of this project would be to migrate our wireless service to this new software and architecture
Client Workstation Imaging

ITS has consolidated desktop support into the Enterprise Service group. There is now a need to manage a large number of Windows, Macintosh and Linux machine across a majority of campus buildings. Goal is to provide an authenticated campus imaging service that would be automatically updated and support both academic and research missions on campus.
College of Education: Google Apps for EDU and Chromebooks

The College of Education has expressed a need to have some of the Google ecosystem available to their faculty and students as part of the education experience. Google Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education are used extensively throughout many K – 12 school districts across the country. In order to adequately prepare students for careers in the educational profession, exposure to and knowledge of how those Google solutions work is important to their success in the marketplace. Specifically, the College of Education is looking to be able to “demonstrate” the following solutions: • Google Chromebooks in a managed environment. • Google Apps for Education • Google Classroom
Enterprise Chromebook & G Suite Management

Investigate and implement campus wide Enterprise management of Chromebook OS devices and G Suite for Faculty/Staff usage.
Fiber installation I-380
Project Duration May 1, 2017 - June 29, 2021
The Iowa Department of Transportation (IA-DOT) is proposing a trade of fiber with the University of Iowa. The IA-DOT is running 29,000 feet of conduit and fiber on I380 from Penn Street to I80 and along I80 to 965 and is wanting to trade 36 strands of this fiber for 24,000 feet of 48 strands of UI fiber along 965 from Forevergreen Rd to Penn Street and along Penn Street from 965 to I380. The University would need to build out fiber along 965 to Penn Street and from Penn Street from 965 to I380 to meet this obligation at a total cost of approximately $51,000 for 144 strand fiber installation and termination.
Guest Wireless Replacement

Replacement of the AT&T Guest Wireless service with a new Guest WiFi Net on campus, due to the retirement of that AT&T service and AT&T no longer renewing its contract which is set to expire in April 2018.
OneIT: Data Centers & Servers
Project Duration March 22, 2015 - January 23, 2017
Consolidate all server rooms on campus to centrally managed data center locations (for Production, Research, and Business Continuance). Complete an inventory, evaluation, and classification of in-scope server room spaces and servers. Assess current data center services and adapt to address gaps. Transition servers and services to consolidated data centers and decommission vacated server rooms so they can be repurposed.
OneIT: End User Support
Project Duration April 1, 2015 - December 31, 2020
Improve efficiency of end-user support while maintaining or improving quality. Integrate all campus IT Help Desk support into a shared service model and transition to an IT Service Desk strategy. Implement shared service model for campus end user device management and support, and for end user consultation on general IT services. Utilize campus IT Service Desk as preferred first point of contact for all general IT support and as much specialized support as is feasible. Identify areas of specialized support that are best delivered in a more customized, local manner, and those that may be shared across some organizational boundaries to improve upon current support models.
OneIT: HR Processes

Explore opportunities to adapt current HR processes to facilitate changes required to implement the TIER recommendations. Establish processes to identify and potentially enhance skills and interests of IT staff to meet future UI needs. Create an IT Position Review Council that is vetted through the CIO.
